Stuttering
Fluency support focuses on helping navigate stuttering. This will look different for every person but may include exploring fluency approaches and feelings about stuttering. Sessions are responsive to your child’s interests.
What is fluency and stuttering?
Fluency refers to the smooth, natural flow of speech. In speech pathology, we use this term to describe how easily words come out during talking.
Stuttering is a fluency difference that may include:
-
Repetitions of sounds or syllables (e.g., b‑b‑ball)
-
Prolongations where a sound is stretched out (e.g., sssssssalt)
-
Blocks, where a child tries to speak but the sound feels “stuck” or doesn’t come out straight away
These moments can vary from day to day and across different people, places, and situations.
What does a session look like?
Sessions are responsive to your child’s interests and communication style. We explore fluency in supportive, pressure‑free ways.
How do you involve families?
We collaborate with families to explore strategies that fit naturally into daily routines.
